ABC is continuing their Marvel investment! Not only have they officially renewed Agents of SHIELD for a second season, they've also ordered the Captain America spin-off, Agent Carter.

For those who can't recall her role in the Cinematic Universe, Peggy Carter was Cap's World War II love interest, a formidable agent, and co-founder of SHIELD. While there isn't a lot of information about Agent Carter yet, the show is being described as:

It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.
Plus we have this scene from the Marvel One-Shot available on the Iron Man 3 DVD.

Yesterday, Marvel let us know to keep an eye on The View today, for an 'all-new thundering title'. That title: an all new Thor comic being lead, for the first time, by a woman.

According to Whoopi, Thor will make a mistake so grievous, he will no longer be worthy of Mjolnir and the power it conveys. Instead, a woman will take up the mantle as Thor, the God of Thunder. And they are being specific that this is not Thor-Girl, but just Thor... The Thor.

This announcement adds to the thrust of diversity we've seen from Marvel over the past year with Kamala Kahn as Ms Marvel and Miles Morales as Spider-Man. The story and woman have yet to be revealed, but we know she'll be blond.

What do you think about this news? Will Thor finally be an interesting property?

During a new interview with Uproxx, Iron Man 3 writer Shane Black disclosed some pretty tender details regarding Marvel's strategic decision to genderswap the villain from female to male. Here's the chat from Uproxx, transcribed:

Why? Rebecca Hall’s character does have an abrupt ending.

All I’ll say is this, on the record: There was an early draft of Iron Man 3 where we had an inkling of a problem. Which is that we had a female character who was the villain in the draft. We had finished the script and we were given a no-holds-barred memo saying that cannot stand and [Marvel’s] changed our minds because, after consulting, we’ve decided that toy won’t sell as well if it’s a female.

What?

So, we had to change the entire script because of toy making. Now, that’s not Feige. That’s Marvel corporate, but now you don’t have that problem anymore.

Ike Perlmutter is gone.

Yeah, Ike’s gone. But New York called and said, “That’s money out of our bank.” In the earlier draft, the woman was essentially Killian — and they didn’t want a female Killian, they wanted a male Killian. I liked the idea, like Remington Steele, you think it’s the man but at the end, the woman has been running the whole show. They just said, “no way."

Fox announced the entire original cast will be back. Phew. Cause we wouldn't have it any other way. Any speculations on who will ultimately be cast as Cable in the Deadpool sequel?
