You can add Borderlands to the list of video game properties that will be turned into movies that you maybe will see, but really don't need.

Lionsgate announced Aug. 28 that they would develop the games series into a 'tentpole' movie, would means they probably have a few ideas for all the ways they want to fool with the loot-based first person shooter.

According to Variety:

"Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. "The 'Borderlands' games don't pull any punches, and we'll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise."

Friday's announcement comes less than three months before Lionsgate opens its fourth and final film in its highly successful "Hunger Games" franchise, which has grossed $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office. The studio's Summit label generated $3.3 billion from its five-film "Twilight Saga." And it has grossed more than $550 million from the first two films in its four-film "Divergent Series."

You can put this one up there with The Last of Us and Assassin's Creed as movies we're mildly interested in, but never asked for.

Well, in a weird turn, Mojang has announced the director for that Minecraft movie.

Rob McElhenney, one of the creators and stars of FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia will go behind the camera and direct whatever in the heck the Minecraft movie will be.

Interestingly, according to his IMDB page, McElhenney has only directed three episodes of Always Sunny, one short movie with Danny DeVito and a TV movie called Pariah which hasn't even aired yet. That seems like a big brand to hand off to such a small resume.

Oh, he's also the guy who gained an extra 50 pounds for the TV show because he thought it would be funny.

And it really was.

Even though we've known about the movie for over a year, there's been little in the way of details circling the production. I guess they'll now get to work in figuring out how to possibly make a movie from Minecraft.

There will probably be a pickaxe.

Yeah, that Rampage.  New Line Cinema has announced plans to make a movie starring Dwayne Johnson based on the 80s arcade game, Rampage.

The company is keeping mum about the plot details, but if it's anything like the game, the Rock will be up against discount King Kong, knockoff Godzilla, and a hideous giant wolf.  The project is still seeking a director, so if you've got any suggestions, send 'em New Line's way. The Rock is ready to go!

This new trailer introduces you to the more of the band of classic game champions who must join forces to defeat this suspiciously specific alien invasion.

It's also the first time I've realized that the Peter Dinklage character is completely based off of King of Kong's Billy Mitchell.

Dinklage even plays the Donkey Kong champion in PIXELS. So, much like the rest of the movie, it's pretty on the nose.

Given that the last decade of summer blockbusters have mostly aimed right at the nostalgic feels, PIXELS seems like just another in a long run of cynical executive decision making. Let's hope it's more fun than that.

I hear plants vs zombies going to be really plot heavy.

Coming soon (not really) to BBC near you!

Daniel Radcliffe is set to play Sam Houser, the co-creator and current president of Rockstar Games. Houser is credited with both the creation of GTA and upping the ante as far as video game violence was concerned.

This, as you know from the early 2000s, drew the ire of Florida attorney Jack Thompson who was known for suing a variety of media outlets for racy and violent content.

As of now the part of Jack Thompson has not been cast. I for one am hoping Idris Elba is up for the role, despite looking nothing like Jack Thompson.

See, I think it could work.

Want to continue to be terrified by a horrifying animatronic bear.

Via Hollywood Reporter:

“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” said Grahame-Smith.

"The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," said Cawthon.

The project is currently out to writers.

Adam Stone and Jay Ireland will exec produce. Jon Berg and Nik Mavinkurve are overseeing for Warners.
