Welcome back to Tolkien Tuesdays! We're back and serving up another batch of dank and dumb Lord of the Rings goodness for anyone who enjoys Tolkien as much as they do memes. This collection has got it all: more laughing Leonardo DiCaprio, more hobbit mockery, and (of course) the ever-necessary question of where Gondor was when the Westfold fell. Have at 'em.
Even when turned into a pony and put into the magical land of Equestria, poor Leo's talent still goes unacknowledged.
It's Friday, and while for many of us that might be a meaningless designation of time, it's also when we share our favorite dank memes of the week. This week's edition of The Dank Drop reflects the internet's newfound obsession with Among Us- as well as a new Leonardo DiCaprio meme format. It's a nice mix of meme trends and the usual edgy content, which we think makes for a solid pre-weekend distraction. Happy scrolling.
You probably never knew this, but Leonardo DiCaprio was once in talks with George Lucas to become the star of the Star Wars prequels. After the success of James Cameron's box office juggernaut Titanic, a young Leo was the king of the cinematic world and a thirsty George Lucas wanted a piece. Unfortunately for Hayden Christensen haters everywhere, Leo wasn't ready to take on the spotlight of Lord Vader.
In an interview with Shortlist, Leo quoted:
I did have a meeting with George Lucas about that as well, yes. Again, just didn't feel ready to take that dive. At that point.
But, the what-if hype doesn't stop there... In that same interview with Shortlist, Leonardo DiCaprio talks about the roles of Robin in Batman Forever, as well as, Peter Parker in Spider-Man.
I never screen-tested. I had a meeting with Joel Schumacher. It was just one meeting and, no, I didn't end up doing it. As I recall I took the meeting, but didn't want to play the role. Joel Schumacher is a very talented director but I don't think I was ready for anything like that. [Spider-Man] was another one of those situations, similar to Robin, where I didn't feel ready to put on that suit yet. They got in touch with me.
We're just over here trying to figure out which will come first: Leo playing a superhero, or Leo getting an Oscar.
The Hollywood Reporter just announced that Leonardo DiCaprio's film production company, Appian Way and Paramount Pictures are teaming up to produce their very own Captain Planet movie. Paramount managed to lock down the rights to Captain Planet and the Planeteers, and "is in negotiations with Jono Matt and Scream Queens star Glen Powell to write the script."
Sources from The Hollywood Reporter also say that "the story takes place years after the adventures of the show, with the Captain now a washed up hasbeen who needs the kids more than they need him."
As we've get older it feels like the weekend becomes less and less exciting. Instead of being able to look forward to fun activities, it becomes more of a break from work so we can tackle our other responsibilities. And in 2020? It's even worse. Fortunately, memes often help us fill up this inevitably boring time. And we've got a lot of 'em right here for you.
Who would have thought that one innocuous frame from the 2012 movie "Django Unchained" would experience such explosive popularity almost eight years later? We don't have the science to explain it, but no one can argue that there's something about Leonardo DiCaprio's smug little giggle that is just extremely relatable.
