Disney has nothing on the animorphs.

I have to admit something kind of shameful. I never read the Animorphs books growing up. I was more of a Magic Treehouse and American Girl kid, and I never got around to reading this incredible series. I was always amazed by their covers in the school library, and thought that they were merely light, episodic books about kids who turn into animals for the sake of fun and mischief. I recently learned through my partner that the Animorphs series is way darker than I could've ever imagined. I had no idea that they were literally operating as soldiers to defeat an evil alien who was trying to take over humanity. I hadn't the slightest of clues that the series ended in such a ambiguously tragic manner. I thought that they were just like Magic Treehouse, with all of the characters okay at the end of every installment, ready to start it up again at the beginning of the next book. If you read Animorphs and knew how traumatic it is, these Animorph memes are for you.
