31-year-old stressed woman in legal trouble demands spiritual friend read her tarot cards to help ease her mind, her friend refuses, claiming she needs a lawyer, not a card reading: ‘Good friends have to give their friends hard truths'

I wouldn't say I'm the type of person who believes in all this voodoo stuff. I think it's fun and interesting, sure, but accurate…I'm just not convinced. When a tarot card reader tells you they can feel your stressed energy as you enter the room, I'm pretty sure they're just banking on the fact that half the population is in a constant mode of stress while trying to keep up with the demands of daily life…and I didn't need a card of an upside-down Sea King to tell you that…

However, some people are definitely more stressed than others, and for good reason. This tarot card reader uses card-reading as a fun side hobby, a.k.a., not betting her life on it, and definitely not betting the lives of others on it either. So when her friend, who is in some legal trouble, comes to her asking for a card-reading, she refuses. She doesn't want to get involved in playing with her emotions over such a serious topic, because after all…the answers only lie with God…and the judge of Massachusetts. She can tell her 'it's all going to be fine,' but the truth is, it may not be….so does being a good friend mean telling your friends what they want to hear in an attempt to calm their nerves, or does it mean hitting them with the harsh truth?

  • Card-reading isn’t something that would take her long to do, yet she still doesn’t feel comfortable holding that type of mental responsibility in her hands. Instead of a card reading, she’s recommended something much more stable, like getting an actual lawyer! This isn’t something a magical mind can fix, but something that needs to be dealt with by a professional in a fancy suit, not a few multi-colored scarves…

    I (f31) like "witchy" things. Tarot cards, I make my own herbal tinctures (I am fully vaccinated and believe in science just getting that in), crystals etc.

It's far kinder to tell it to her straight (that she needs a lawyer, not a card reading) than to pretend to read tarot like I've seen some other comments suggest. I'd hope my friends would do similar if I ever asked them to do something that would end very poorly for me. NTA
