Holy moly, remember when we knew so little about computers and technology in general that we were convinced there would be a global shut-down of all electronics as the new millennium rolled in? It is rather hilarious, especially for the as yet unnamed prankster who managed to spread this rumor, because it got to such heights that the news would mention our collective impending doom at least once a day in the lead up to 31.12.1999.

Thankfully, though, as you might have figured, nothing happened, literally nothing, and we have lived not just another day but another 25 years without an incident of this sort. Making it all the more hilarious to look back at how chaotic and ridiculous we had been. Which is why we made this nostalgic throwback to some of the photos that captured the chaos we lived through in preparation for the end of the world, also known as Y2K.

  • It is good to see that literally everyone in 1999 lost their mind and bought into the potential end of the world. Thankfully, after this world ending event passed without incident, the Mayan calendar ending almost two decades later was received with a lot more calm.

  • You have to love the idea that electronics for a period were sold with warning stickers urging people to turn off their devices before the millennial bug would attack them. And seeing as this happened on a Friday, we can bet that more than a few people forgot to switch off their electronics as they ran out of work to get to their respective celebrations.
