Old school America. A phrase the conjures up images of long-lasting road trips, simple diners in the middle of nowhere, kind folks from tiny towns eager to meet visitors from far away. A time in history when prosperity and society when hand in hand and while there were problems, much like there are today. Life had a certain calmer appeal to it.

But much like the beta max, this way of life has faded fast into the past, leaving only a relic of its memory behind for us to remember what life was like during what many would call America's golden age. So we wanted to share a little of that novel nostalgia with you and so created this list of retro photos that will make you feel like you yourself are cruising down Route 66 to get your kicks. What it must have been like to road trip the United States in the heyday of the all American road trip. Going from tiny town to tiny town. Meeting people who have seen the whole world, and those who have never left their middle of nowhere town. You got to experience life in its full breadth and depth. And cheap gas, that was nice too.

Wait, you want to tell us that the New York Subway once looked like this? At this point we were pretty sure that it has and always will be a cesspool of poverty and graffiti paint. It is hard to believe that once upon a time stations had an inviting look and feel to them.
