Kenny Baker was an essential part of the Star Wars saga. Baker truly brought R2-D2 to life, and we all find ourselves in mourning over his death at 81 years old. George Lucas shared the following in tribute to the late actor's passing:

“Kenny Baker was a real gentleman as well as an incredible trooper who always worked hard under difficult circumstances,” said Lucas. “A talented vaudevillian who could always make everybody laugh, Kenny was truly the heart and soul of R2-D2 and will be missed by all his fans and everyone who knew him.”

LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy also added, “We’re all saddened to learn of Kenny’s passing,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “There is no Star Wars without R2-D2, and Kenny defined who R2-D2 was and is. He will be greatly missed.”

Amidst all the Pokémon GO madness, it's heartwarming, bittersweet moments like this that can really strike a chord of positivity in an otherwise mad and wild circus.

So, when a Japanese Pokémon GO player tweeted that he found his deceased younger brother's favorite pokémon beside his headstone, it's a nice bit of serendipity.

It's hard to grasp that it's been a year since Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata passed away due to a bile duct tumor. Genyo Takeda ('Technology Fellow' at Nintendo) summed up how Iwata's journey was so far from over beautifully, in his eulogy:

“Please know, however, that the seeds you have planted, and the plants that have sprouted will put forth small flowers as they bring smiles to the faces of people around the world, blossom into a grand flower bigger than even you, our leader, Iwata-san,” Takeda shared. “Together with Miyamoto and others of our generation, we swear in our hearts that we will continue our efforts so that, someday, we can report and present to you the blossoming of these flowers. May you continuously watch over and guide us managers, our employees and your family.”

Iwata's passing inspired a wealth of heartwarming fan art dedications like these:

On Sunday morning Anton Yelchin's Jeep rolled down his driveway, pinning then crushing him against a brick post outside of his house in Los Angeles, California. It just so happens the car that caused this horrific fatality was a 2015 Grand Cherokee, and among over one million more cars/SUVs filed for recall by Fiat Chrysler.

More than 100 crashes have been reported to date, due to gear selector problems that can confuse drivers about whether their cars are in park or not.
